Ashburnham Golf Club

Ashburnham, the demanding seaside venue where the great welshman and winning Ryder Cup Captain, Dai Rees won the PGA title in 1959, has long been regarded as one of the best links courses in Britain. Indeed it won that rating from no less authority than the immortal Harry Vardon. He twice played the course, enjoying himself immensely and was compelled to record soon afterwards that “The course I like best in Wales is Ashburnham”

The Welsh Open PGA was hosted at the Ashburnham Golf Club in 2010, this being testament to the continued superb standard of our course. This has been the latest in a long line of important tournaments held here since 1900’s .

Members and Visitors alike appreciate the true links experience that this historic venue provides, and together with the stunning scenery and a warm welcome offered in the clubhouse makes Ashburnham an experience not to be missed.

Portstewart Golf Club

Portstewart is one of the few Clubs in Ireland with three 18 hole golf courses and each offers something different for the Golfer.

Founded in 1894 and redesigned by Willie Park jnr in the 1920’s this championship links course received its greatest makeover with the purchase of land known as “Thistly Hollow” in 1981. This enabled the club to build a stunning new seven holes through towering dunes and fabulous and natural links land. Designed by local school teacher Des Giffin the Strand Course is the jewel in the Portstewart portfolio.

Dominating Dubai’s enchanting waterfront, the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club overlooks the Creek and Marina.

Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club opened in January 1993 to world acclaim and since then it has been host to numerous tournaments and events, including the Dubai Desert Classic on two occasions. The course record of 63 is jointly held by Lee Westwood and Darren Clarke.

A round of golf at the sporting oasis in the heart of the city has a distinct aura of a delightful journey across the fabled landscape of Dubai, a city that thrives in all seasons. Well-groomed fairways lined with date palms and coconut trees, attractive water hazards and shrubbery lends a tropical air to the Club’s 18-hole, par-71 championship course that rolls into thousands of undulating yards.

“La Perouse”, as the course is often known, is set amongst scrub covered sand hills and valleys that slope down to the Pacific Ocean at secluded Cruwee Bay. This inspiring layout is bounded by water on three sides and has many of the characteristics of true links golf. Occasionally benign and at the mercy of the “young guns”, this sleeping giant, with its undulating fairways and small greens, calls for great skill in shot making when the sea breezes blow. It has been written that golf had its origins on unique seascapes similar to this one, where the wind is a dominating factor and the direction from which it blows making any of the eighteen holes comparatively easy or extremely difficult.

Golf Digest currently ranks the NSW Golf Club as the No. 9 golf course outside the United States and the No.1 golf course outside the United States and the UK.

“It’s one of the great golf courses I’ve seen, really a fun golf course. You could have some real times out here.”

Delhi Golf Club – India

The Delhi Golf Club, a municipal course in the early 1930s became a corporate entity in 24th February 1950. The Course, comprises of the championship 18 hole Lodhi Course, part of the Asian PGA Tour, and the shorter 9 hole Peacock Course. The latter came into being when the course was re-designed by Peter Thomson in 1976-77.

Tee off on a trail of history. Spray your shot and chances are – particularly if that damned hook persists – that you’ll be looking for the ball around turns of a tomb. Every golf course boasts of its hoary past, but few can compete with the Lodhi. Here lie the end of dynasties, the relics of mighty empires, ruins which bear testimony to an age of glory. Sometimes your ball might fly unexpectedly; be sure the spirits are active, they hold you in awesome grip. Playing from the bunker short of the old seventh in the 1968 Indian Open, Stan Peach topped his explosion. The ball rose like a rocket, but hit the dome of the Barah Khamba and dropped back within inches of the pin for an easy birdie putt. Stan smiled, not the spirits. Having burnt up the course till then his game suddenly fell apart, his six-stroke lead disappeared and Kenji Hosoishi won the crown. Don’t tremble, just get the ole riblick going and let history destine your play.
